Weekend In The City: Boston
Seven capitals of cool, and the ultimate off-duty wardrobe for each.
The home of the continent’s first university is a perfect place for a few cold weather collegiate classics, like the Ivy League appropriate rugby stripe sweater, above. Pair it with a tweed blazer, some dark jeans, a wool scarf, and a pair of brogues. Throw in a heavier toggle coat, dark cords, and a pair of water-resistant lug sole boaters for those brisk Beantown nights. Continue the theme wiht a pattern-on-pattern tartan tie and gingham shirt. Finally, show some class of another kind by toting your laptop in a luxe leather case. [Scroll down to shop the full array of items you see above.]
A few places to hit while you’re in town…

Drink. No extensive cocktails lists here. Just tell the bartender what you’re in the mood for and he or she will whip it up. Or just order a whiskey and be done with it.

Pinkcomma. This architectural gallery’s current exhibit, Projections, takes a theoretical look at the avant-garde future of urban design. A tidy juxtaposition in a city that’s been standing for hundreds of years.
46 Waltham Street, (617) 426-4466, www.pinkcomma.com
Bistro du Midi. Run by a former sous chef at Le Bernardin, this seafood specialty aims towards those same culinary heights while keeping the tab from getting out of hand.
272 Boylston Street, Back Bay, (617) 426-7878, www.bistrodumidi.com
Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar. Despite the proximity to Fenway Park, this ain’t no sports bar. Just a great brunch spot with plenty of thought-out drink choices. And a menu featuring a full pig, if the mood shall strike you.

Institute for Contemporary Art [pictured]. Boston’s first new museum in almost a century is also its most interesting. Cantilevered over the harbor, the ICA does musical performances, films, and displays work by the likes of celebrated street art, Swoon. No small feat for a town famous for the paintings that aren’t there.
