The Brand

When you daydream of sailboat rigging, clambakes on the beach—and the kind of perfectly fitting board shorts that populate those imaginary vistas—you probably don’t imagine New York City as being the source of those swimsuits. But Eric Scott and May Redding’s curiously titled Quit Mad Stop collection of men’s swim essentials has been produced right in the heart of Manhattan’s garment district since 2009. The clean, simple, and impeccably tailored trunks are cut and sewn by expert craftsmen—whom Scott and May pay a fair, living wage to—thus making them a warm weather staple worth investing in. Aiming for timelessness in its designs, Quit Mad Stop’s creations are beachwear right out of Montauk in the ‘70s: board shorts that are slender without being slim, lengths that show just enough thigh, Italian milled technical fabrics, and colors you’ll still want wear in a few years, especially when they’ve been sun-bleached to perfection. As for that name, it’s taken from Jack Kerouac’s “Bowery Blues,” and according to Scott, “is how we feel.”
