The Brand
Founded: 2010
Based: Milan
Who wears it: Pitti Uomo attendees
Brand backstory: After putting in time with the perfectionists at Prada, Calvin Klein, and Yves Saint Laurent, Andrea Pompilio struck out on his own. His impulse: to make apparel as sharp and tailored but, in his words, deliberately “un po’ sbagliato” (a little off). While his clothes display the studied lines and volumes of a fashion veteran, they also convey the boyish irreverence of a born modern: classic sihoulettes are rendered in navy, black, and white and are paired with details in pale lemon, turquoise, and pomegranate. His designs combine an impeccable cut with military pluck, as with his chinos, which are are closed at the waist with a belt borrowed from the classic trench. At Pitti Uomo 2011, Pompilio’s first solo collection received the Who’s On Next award for up-and-coming prêt-à-porter collections.
